The bicycle racks available in the Metro stations are operated and maintained by Parada Vital Institute, through agreement of assignment of spaces executed with Metro in September 2008. Metro explains that never transferred any amount to such institute. About 90 days ago, Metro verified, from complaints, that the party to the agreement started showing operating problems, causing loss to the operation of some bicycle racks.

Since then, Metro and the Department of Metropolitan Transports have been holding meetings with the institute, to require from them the proper provision of services. A contingency plan was established aiming at minimizing the troubles to the users, which became effective from 12/15/2012.

The contingency service is being provided in the following Metro stations: Anhangabaú, Palmeiras-Barra Funda, Guilhermina-Esperança and Butantã (of Line 4 - Yellow, operated by ViaQuatro).

In the bicycle racks of Anhangabaú, Palmeiras-Barra Funda and Guilhermina-Esperança there will be no more bicycle loans. The operation time continues being from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The other bicycle racks will be temporarily closed until the Institute regularizes the service. In case it does not happen soon, Metro and STM will search for alternatives.
